Vets under Floodlights”14/03/2025
Firstly, I need to repeat my thanks to Shaun, Martin, and Steve, for their help organising and running the events, the volunteers at Stafford Rugby Club & Lichfield Rugby Club and to both clubs for hosting the events. But most of all to the best part of 200 Vets who turned up to both venues and made the competition a tremendous success and over 200 spectators at each event that helped generate a fantastic atmosphere!
There are some tremendous photographs about thanks to Danielle Baily and Martin!Pleasw let us have any more that are out there!!

We really need a copy of the video of Stafford Vets entering the pitch to Its Raining Men, it was one of the funniest things I’ve seen in a long time!
The songs chosen by most teams set the tone of how the teams intended to play and the standard of the rugby was absolutely fantastic.
The competitions were very closely fought at both venues with Leek winning in the North on a bonus point earned on an outstanding very close match where they scored 4 tries. Not to be outdone bonus points also separated Tamworth as the winners in the south. With both teams now keen to play a bragging rights final, over to you Chopper!
The teams were:
Stafford, Leek, Cannock, Eccleshall, Willenhall, Rugeley (Grey Beards), Lichfield, Tamworth, Burntwood.
Vets Rugby in Staffordshire now owns the Friday evening of RFU Super Rugby week end, and already next season we are looking for 3 venues, and possibly a few friendlies before… The County Vets Selectors said they weren’t expecting quite such a huge volume of talent to be on show from across Staffordshire with over 40 names collected at each event to go forward into the County trials match.
More information will follow about this and the County games.
Coming soon the Centenary Cup with even more teams entering than last year, lets continue growing rugby in Staffordshire.
