Start of Season Guidance
Thank you for all the work you are doing to prepare for the new season. We recognise that the prolonged dry weather has created additional challenges for CBs, clubs, coaches, referees and volunteers.
As you know, RFU community rugby competitions below the Men’s National Leagues and Women’s PWR have been delayed until the week commencing 21 September.
While Constituent Bodies (CBs) are responsible for deciding when non-RFU league and cup competitions begin, the RFU has published additional guidance to help CBs, clubs, coaches and referees prepare for the season.

We are sharing this directly with key contacts across CBs, clubs and referee societies, and promoting it through the @communityrugby Instagram channel.
Whilst we are sending an email about the additional guidance directly to club officials, you may also wish to use your channels to ensure it reaches the right people. We’ve included a suggested email below that you can use or adapt.
Start of season guidance
Following the announcement last week that the start of the competitive community rugby season has been delayed by two weeks, please find further guidance below to help guide CBs, referee societies, clubs, schools, colleges, universities, coaches, referees and volunteers through the upcoming weeks.
As you know, RFU community rugby competitions below the men’s national league and the women’s PWR have been delayed until the week commencing 21 Sep. CBs, schools, colleges and universities are responsible for when non-RFU league and cup competitions will start.
The additional RFU guidance includes information on evaluating the safety of pitches, returning players to game fitness in the build-up to the start of the competitive season, guidance on age grade rugby and more.
