Essington news

Essington Rugby Club has secured a £31,000 grant from Biffa Award, a multi-million pound fund that helps to build communities and transform lives through awarding grants to community and environmental projects across the UK, as part of the Government’s Landfill Communities Fund.

The total cost of creating the new luxurious toilets was covered with an additional £5,000 grant from the Rugby Football Union and £3,000 from Rosalyn Halford-Brawn.

Essington Rugby Club President, David Brawn, said that more than 8,000 people visit the Rugby Club every year for Weddings, Birthdays and other celebrations as well as all the sporting activities that take place at the club.

Sir Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, said the wonderful facilities now available at Essington Rugby Club will surely encourage
even more people to hire the Club for their own purposes, and meet the Club’s target of attracting 10,000 visitors each year.

Kathleen Grantham of St John’s Church says using the Rugby Club for large events, eg. dances and skittle evenings, attracts not only Church members but predominantly other people within the community and beyond. The renovated toilets have greatly enhanced everyone’s experience.

John McDermott, President of Staffordshire RFU, said the new Toilets were the poshest he had ever seen at a Rugby Club and had set a standard for others to try to match.

Landfill Communities Fund
The Landfill Communities Fund (LCF) is an innovative tax credit scheme enabling operators (LOs) to contribute money to organisations enrolled with ENTRUST as Environmental Bodies (EBs). EBs use this funding for a wide range of community and environmental projects in the vicinity of landfill sites. LOs are able to claim a credit against their landfill tax liability for 90% of the contributions they make.

Since it’s inception in 1996, over £1.4 billion has been spent on more than 51,000 projects across the UK. For further information please visit www.entrust.org.uk or see HMRC’s general guide to landfill tax.
