Many thanks, in the main, to Neill Pow and Martin Di Ridder for putting this competition together at relatively short notice following requests from our clubs to provide competition. The main driver was to provide some structured rugby for lower sides towards the end of the season after the leagues had wound down.
Neill and Martin (and others) put a huge amount of effort into getting these cups up and running and that should be acknowledged. In most respects the competition has been a great success.
The framework was a competition with winners, but it was not envisaged that having a cup or a trophy to display in the clubhouse would be the motivation for entering – unlike the traditional Staffordshire Cups. We suggested early on that giving the winners some beer would be enough.
The Competitions Committee will be reviewing the competition framework and structure at out next meeting. This was a brand new venture and we agreed to go for it, at relatively short notice – on the understanding that we might not get everything right first time – with a review to follow. That review will look at whether it was successful enough to continue next season, and if so, what changes/improvements could be made
