Election of the Staffordshire RFU Council Member
Election of the Staffordshire RFU Council Member
The RFU Council, together with the RFU Board of Directors and Executive Staff, governs and administers
rugby in England.
The Council’s principal responsibilities are to provide monitoring and oversight of the Board on behalf
of the membership, and to act as a conduit for information to and from the game. Council members are
full voting members of the RFU (alongside clubs, Constituent Bodies, National Representative Bodies
and Referee Societies) and are entitled to vote at RFU Annual General Meetings and Special General
Meetings.
RFU Council members are elected for three-year terms, up to an aggregate maximum of nine years
(subject to limited exemptions). As a Constituent Body of the RFU, Staffordshire Rugby Union (SRU) is
entitled to elect one individual to represent its interests on the RFU Council.
The current Council member, Michael Procter, has reached his maximum term. In accordance with RFU
Rule 18 (Election and Removal of Council Members), the SRU will shortly commence the process to
elect a Council member for the three-year period beginning with the 2026–2027 season.
Accordingly, nominations are now invited from across the SRU membership. Applications are open with
immediate effect and will close on 31 January 2026.
The election process to be used will depend on the number of nominations received and will be
confirmed no later than 14 February 2026. The process will be managed on behalf of the SRU by Shaun
Godfrey (SRU Vice Chair) and Brian Scott (SRU Honorary Treasurer).
The Job Description can be found at https://www.rfru.org.uk/s/RFU-Council-member-JD-Dec-2020.pdf
The minimum time commitment required of an RFU Council member is currently estimated at 30–40
days per year. This includes CB and club liaison, attendance at RFU Council meetings, involvement in
selected RFU sub-committees, attendance at England & SRU representative fixtures, and regular visits
to Staffordshire clubs.
