Staffordshire A

Staffordshire’s senior men swung into action last evening at Burton RFC when the A squad firstly trained with the seniors and warmed up as seen in the photos before the 24 man squad played against a Midlands Police Select squad comprising a few Burton players too.

In a fast and entertaining game the Staffs squad won comfortably in the 4 sessions but were given a solid workout by the Police squad and it showed the Head Coach, Andy Appleyard and assistants Tom Hughes and Chaz Bunting, the potential of players from clubs that might not always have had a chance in recent years of playing county rugby.

Players from Lichfield, Newcastle, Rugeley, Tamworth, Longton, Stafford, Trentham and Walsall were represented along with some more experienced players. There is some real talent coming through currently and we hope to see them playing in the county championship in the next few years.
