message from Bill Sweeney, CEO

As the new season gets underway, I want to take a moment to wish you and everyone involved in your club the very best for the months ahead — on and off the pitch.

The past year has been a time of reflection and learning for all of us at the Rugby Football Union. We know it has brought challenges, particularly in how we connect and communicate with the grassroots game. Your passion, resilience, and continued commitment to our sport is always recognised, and we are incredibly grateful for all you do to keep rugby thriving in your communities.

This season, we are focused on rebuilding stronger relationships with clubs at every level of the game. That starts with listening more, engaging earlier, and working in closer partnership with you — not just when decisions are made, but throughout the journey. You will see more regular communication, more direct conversations with our teams, and a renewed focus on supporting the volunteers, players, coaches, and officials who are the heartbeat of our game.

We also remain committed to growing participation, supporting player safety, improving facilities, and investing in programmes that make a tangible difference at grassroots level.

As we look ahead to the rest of the Women’s Rugby World Cup in 2025 and beyond, we want every club to feel part of rugby’s shared future — a future that is inclusive, sustainable, and built on mutual respect between all parts of the game.

Thank you again for everything you do and wishing you a successful, enjoyable, and fulfilling season ahead.

With best wishes,

Bill Sweeney
