Competition Update

Following on from the success of the Centenary Cup Competition last season for interested 2nd and 3rd XV’s and some of the lower 1st XV’s  (who don’t qualify for the main Staffordshire Cup Competitions), I am pleased to confirm that we have secured funding to purchase trophies for all three tiers of this year’s competition, and a bit more. Therefore, I am asking for expressions of interest from sides wanting to enter the competition again this season.

The competition will again be played at the same time as the first three weeks of the PaPa Johns Competition for first teams, with the same Competition Regulations as last season.  However, this season there shall be a variation to the competition linking it to other events.

We will be asking sides to identify players over the age of 35 who will then be watched during the fixtures by selectors for a County Vets side. This process will be supported by a Vets Tournament that will be played under floodlight on the evening of Friday the 15th of March.  There is a proposal of a knockout competition of four teams at each venue, with games of 20 minutes each way, (or similar).

We are hoping to play the Vets Tournaments at two venues in the county and will provide a trophy and some entertainment at each event.  Steve Harris or a member of County Vets selectors will be present at both venues, so I will also need expressions of interest from clubs that could host the events and clubs or teams wanting to participate, encouraging clubs who don’t quite have enough veterans to amalgamate into a BaBa’s side.

All of the above would then give Steve and his team sufficient players to arrange a home and away fixture for a County Vets side towards the end of the season, again probably Friday night fixtures.

For all expressions of interest please email as per my details below.

Finally built on last season’s summer charity sevens event, notice is given that we intend to host another charity sevens this summer, possibly June and will also include a women’s sevens competition.

Best Regards
