Trentham under 10s reach Prima cup Celebration day.
For the last 26 years Leicester Tigers have hosted the under tens Prima Cup tournament. Attracting over 70 club entries each season the Prima cup is the largest and most prestigious single age group playing opportunity in the Junior Rugby calendar.
In that 26 year history only two Staffordshire teams have reached the Celebration day/final . 2007 saw Stoke RUFC as champions and more recently 2018 Trentham RUFC were recorded as Prima Shield Champions.
The current under tens had big shoes to follow !
2020 will see not only another Staffordshire team in the final, but will see our Trentham RUFC recorded in a prestigious tournament.
Trentham 10’s initially played at Tamworth and successfully played teams from Leicester , Coventry, Oxford and South Staffordshire. We were then invited back to play at Welford Road to share the ground with Leicester Tigers and Wasps. The team, were invited on the pitch in front of 23353 people and had photos with Tigers winger Jordan Olowofela.
Storm Dennis did not dampen Trenthams’ spirit when we played two very strong and disciplined teams. Holt , who had travelled 110 miles from Norwich and Silhillians from Solihull. Following a real challenge from Holt we then met Silhillains who have won the Cup three times and have been current champions for the last two years. All credit to Silhillains as they pushed Trentham to their limit in what was a nail biting and evenly matched game . In what boys dreams are made of Trentham scored a try in the last second and put Trentham just one try ahead !
The tournament used the fair play Scoring system where the teams behaviour and rugby values are key. The team and parents behaved exceptionally and represented Trentham rugby club with Pride.
Trentham are back at Welford road on the 26th April 2020 for the Celebration day. The junior games will be played before the Tigers v Sale Sharks Premier game .
