In a warm up game for the upcoming Jason Leonard U20 Championship Staffordshire hosted Cheshire at Longton on 2 March.
25 players were selected to represent the County. After an extended warm up the team started the match on a perfect day for running rugby.
Initially under heavy pressure from a mobile hard running Cheshire, Staffordshire found themselves 6 nil down. The Squad dug deep and through relentless commitment began to turn the game around. 2 tries in the first half meant the game turned round 14-11 in favour of Staffordshire.
A player led half-time team talk set out what the squad wanted to achieve in the second half. Initially under pressure, the squad were not found wanting and tackle after tackle repelled the Cheshire attacks. A further 3 tries by Staffordshire resulted in a final score of:
Try scorers: Jon Carr, Kyle Reid, Rhys Davies, Lewis Dono, Archie Bent
Conversions: Josh Butler x3, Toby Smith x1
Thanks to Ethan Sephton for refereeing the match and to Longton Rugby Club for allowing the squad to use their facilities.
