PAPA JOHNS Community Cup
Staffordshire Clubs Papa Johns Update
6 Staffordshire sides went into last Saturday’s games looking to continue their progress in this year’s Papa Johns competition.
With Leek already through to the Regional 1 Plate semi final, it was up to Stoke to match the Moorlanders and they duly won their group match against Bedford Athletic to set up a potentially extraordinary Staffordshire story here.
On May 4th, this Saturday, Leek and Stoke both have home draws against Penrith and Westcliff respectively. Should both win, then they would play each other in the National Final at Worcester on May 11th, with a 3pm KO.
In the Regional 1 Shield, Burton went down fighting away at Wirral after a stirring comeback just failed.
In Counties 3 and Below Championship quarter final, Trentham, just fell short at home to Harbury in a seesaw game.
Barton under Needwood quietly progressed to the semi final of the Counties 3 and Below North Plate, after a superb away win at Northampton Mens Own.
It sets up a home tie against Derbyshire side, Tupton. In the other semi final, Rotherham Phoenix take on Wallsend, all this Saturday.
Finally, and not least by any means, Lichfield Ladies are in the Womens Intermediate Cup Final on Saturday, May 12th where they will play Old Albanians Womens 2s.
A fantastic achievement for the Ladies who have defeated Chester Devas Women, Sheffield Women, Cheltenham Ladies and Liverpool St Helens Women to book a place in the final after a competition that started way back on October 1st for them.
If you are at a loose end on a Saturday, still plenty of competitive rugby to be watched and supporting your local Staffordshire Clubs still in the PJ Cup would be a fantastic way to keep involved.
Good luck to all our clubs left in now.
