Adult Player Registration

From the 2024/25 season, all players, in all formats of the game (including non-contact), will be required to register themselves annually to play rugby within RFU member clubs.

Player registration is currently a club-led process, whereby clubs register players on their behalf. We are moving from this to a registration process where players will register themselves to play with a club, using their Game Management System (GMS) account. Clubs will then accept/decline player registrations as they come through.

The move to game-wide registration is intended to benefit the whole rugby community and brings rugby union in line with the majority of other Unions and other sports where this is common practice.

To help get ready for next season and to support the health of the game, from February 2024 we are asking clubs to make sure that your players’ email addresses are verified on GMS.

Please note, this is only for players that already have GMS accounts. If a player does not have a GMS account, they do not need to complete this process. Players that are currently registered to play by their club will already have a GMS account.

The process is straightforward as shown in the graphics below, which you may wish to share with your players alongside this message:

ICYMI – next season all adult players at all levels will need to register themselves online to play rugby 🏉

The RFU have assured us that registering will be a quick and easy process that can be completed on your phone 📱

Adult Player Registration will bring rugby in line with other national sports where registering is the norm and improve the health of the game ⛑️ It also aims to reduce the workload on volunteers at our clubs as they will no longer need to register all players.

To get ready for this, if you have an account on the Game Management System please log in and check your email address and personal details are up to date: https://gms.rfu.com/GMS/Home/Start(opens in a new tab)
