Willenhall RUFC
On Saturday 23rd September Willenhall RUFC will be naming their ground in Essington the “Elfyn Pugh Memorial Ground” in honour of Elfyn Pugh BEM.
Elfyn was a founder member and player for Willenhall in 1966 and went on to hold the positions of Hon Secretary, Vice Chairman, Chairman, and President of the Club.
He was also Secretary and Chairman of the highly regarded Staffordshire Coaching Society through the 1970s, 80s, and 90s developing many quality coaches within Staffordshire and bringing international coaches and players into the County to Coaching Conferences and sessions.
Elfyn was a highly respected figure throughout the game at Club, County, and National level. He had the honour of being President of Staffordshire County Rugby Union from 2002 to 2004 welcoming the 2003 RFU World Cup to Staffordshire on its journey around our Clubs.
He was awarded the British Empire Medal in December 2017 for 50 years of dedicated voluntary service to Willenhall RUFC, Staffordshire RFU and Rugby Union in general.
Born in 1934 in Llanbedr, North Wales Elfyn sadly passed away on 11th January 2021.
